Time Management

In order to be more organized for the upcoming school year, I am going to be more organized with my time. I'm going to have a lot on my plate with extra curricular activities and what-not this semester and if I'm not organized, it will be disastrous. I recently ran across a blog called "Study Hacks" run by an MIT graduate student who is well known for giving students advice on being successful in school. I'm going to start trying out some of his advice by being more organized and am going to give a "test run" this week. The idea is to have goals for a certain day and accomplish them without having too much time constraint.

"Time-blocking" is more flexible as I can assign multiple tasks in a given time slot and accomplish them at my own pace without being pressed for time but still get the tasks done within a time slot. For example this week I have assigned myself to read two chapters in my book, read an health article, and check my e-mail/internet stuff from 9 p.m.-11 p.m. I'll update in a week and give results!

Waiting: Story of My Life

It seems apparent to me that life consists of a series of waiting and waiting to hear back from certain people so you can plan the next step of your life and succeed. Being a pre-med on a quest to medical school I've recently contacted surgeons to see if I can shadow them, professors to see if I can do research with them, different organizations to see if I can volunteer for them, etc. for this upcoming school year. The worst part is waiting to hear back from them because all kinds of thoughts start running through my mind like "Did they read my e-mail but are just going to ignore me?", "Maybe they haven't got around to checking their e-mail yet", "They probably read it but are going to think about it", my point is it makes you paranoid....I hate the waiting game! It's hard to plan because what if I contact someone else and right when I do the orignal person I contacted says yes? Oh the dilemma..

NBA Draft Recap

A Short Recap on the "Winners" and "Losers" of this year's draft

Winners:
LA Clippers-Blake Griffin was easily the #1 pick in this years draft and rightfully so, this is man in the post has superb athleticism and he will see immediate minutes when he arrives in LA. He is a freak of nature and is the type of guy that doesn't mind diving on the floor and getting floor burns if it means getting the ball, great addition for the 'Clips.

Golden State Warriors- Stephen Curry is arguably one of the best shooters the college game has seen, reminds me of a JJ Redick but has the ability to create his own shot like no other. He is a big time scorer and can easily take over a game with his scoring and his passing his undderated--he can zip the ball to any player on the court with ease. Curry will score big in the Golden Gate city.

Atlanta Hawks-Jeff Teague is quick--no really the kid is fast as lighting. He is explosive and can get to the rim and score without breaking a sweat. Can he shoot the rock? You bet....defenders have a tough time guarding this versatile guard because he is so dangerous with the ball. Great addition to the Hawks backcourt.

Losers

This type of shot won't cut it in the NBA

Indiana Pacers-The NCAA Player of the Year might have owned the college ranks with his dramatic flailing and flopping in the lane but Tyler Hansborough is in for a rude awakening when he laces up for his first game in the NBA. Tarheel faithful will argue to the death he is going to be great but the NBA game is no match for his undersized body and cry baby attitude, the crazy turnaround jumper he has mastered will get swatted in the league--Good Luck Mr.Hansborough you'll need it.

Minnesota Timberwolves-The lonely wolves went guard hungry in this draft and selected 5 guards from their 6 picks--4 of those point guards. Though Ty Lawson was traded it still makes no sense to pick up 3 PG's....one of them being Ricky Rubio a star guard out of Spain who has no interest in suiting up for the T-Wolves because of the low market Minnesota has compared to bigger cities such as New York, LA, Miami, etc. The T-Wolves are going to have to make some adjustments and trades before their final roster can be determined.

Detroit Pistons-Austin Daye is good player that can score the ball and his wingspan presents problems for defenders but on the flipside the kid is 6'11 and weighs a sorry 191 lbs.....it's apparent the Pistons jumped the gun on this one and there can only be one Tayshaun Prince....I guess we'll see if size matters.
